In the 1990’s, Howard Hill decided to develop the Air-Flex Flexion Distraction table. Chiropractors were already using flexion-distraction methods in the office, but most of the designs had limited functionality, were engineered using leaky hydraulics, were clunky and heavy and cost a fortune. Howard wanted to follow the tradition of his family’s company and build a chiropractic flexion table that was based on quality and innovation at an affordable price-point.
The idea of air was the answer. Controlled by a compressor, chiropractors would be able to counterbalance their patients weight by increasing or decreasing the air pressure in the flexion cylinder. This not only saved the strain of the doctor when flexing the patient during treatment, but it also provided the patient with a much smoother, quieter and more enjoyable experience.
The modern day version of the Air-Flex holds the same concept of using air to power its functionality, but in a much more efficient way. Hill has added a plethora of options that harness the versatility of the air system as well.
Air powered drops for the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and pelvic sections have added ease and quickness for busy offices.
The air cushioned thoracic breakaway enables doctors to counterbalance the patients mid-thoracic section for adjusting and soft tissue massage.
Automatic distraction was engineered and installed in 2010 for both cervical automatic distraction and lumbar automatic distraction, both powered by air. Using a 6 inch LCD touchscreen, doctors were now able to set a patient up in traction on the Air-Flex and program digitally calculated and repeatable treatments. The touchscreen can control the pull time, rest time, force of traction (lbs) and treatment time. During a treatment, the touchscreen displays the settings in real-time, so doctors know what is happening, when it is happening. This gives doctors a huge advantage by being able to accurately treat each patient in a customized way.
